Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

We strengthen health, dignity, and resilience by providing access to safe water, improved sanitation, and effective hygiene practices for crisis-affected and vulnerable populations. Our WASH interventions are designed to reduce waterborne diseases, improve nutrition, and support sustainable, resilient communities.
Our programs reach displaced families, returnees, high-need rural and urban areas, and vulnerable schools and health facilities. We implement context-appropriate solutions such as community water points, improved latrines, handwashing stations, and menstrual hygiene resources, all designed to be safe, inclusive, and sustainable.
By combining infrastructure improvements with community-led behavior change, our trained male and female facilitators promote hygiene awareness, safe water handling, sanitation maintenance, and inclusive WASH practices. This approach

How we work

DHDO works with vulnerable and crisis-affected communities across Afghanistan to improve livelihoods, strengthen climate resilience, empower women, expand access to education and skills, improve water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), enhance food security and agriculture, and support civil society development. Through integrated humanitarian and development programs, DHDO promotes sustainable solutions that reduce vulnerability, build community resilience, and support inclusive and long-term development.
